Role Overview
Reporting to the Immunization Team Lead, the VMO who will be based at the Health Region is responsible for providing Immunization Technical Assistance (TA) on Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) using the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to the District Health Teams in order to reach and vaccinate zero-dose and under-immunized children with a coverage of above 90%.

The under-listed Regional Referral Hospitals will constitute the duty stations for this assignment in line with the UNICEF Grant in collaboration with the Ministry of Health; Arua, Gulu, Lira, Soroti, Moroto, Mbale, Jinja, Hoima, Fort Portal, Mbarara, Mubende, Masaka and Kabale.
Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Reach Every District / Reach Every Child
to reduce the Zero dose and under-immunized. An emphasis on updating health facility RED/REC Micro plans to include zero dose and under-immunized populations, prioritizing coverage and equity and ensuring implementation.
2. Building capacity of front-line health workers, including District Health Teams (DHTs) and health facility in-charges, on strategies to reach zero-dose children through effective planning and implementation.
3. Engaging health and non-health stakeholders to enhance immunization mobilization and awareness within communities.
4. Conduct regular immunization data analysis to identify challenges/bottlenecks that will inform planning, facilitate activity implementation and monitor progress.
5. Providing mentorship, supportive supervision, and monitoring in areas such as cold chain management and Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) to enhance immunization practices.
6. Follow-up on the Implementation of the following:
· Support implementation of Integrated Child Health Days (ICHDs) by districts, Sub-Counties, and Health Facilities
· Districts and Sub-Counties on the implementation of findings and recommendations from Integrated Child Health Days (ICHD).
· Organize and facilitate trainings, orientations, and mentorship of health workers in RED/RED/Zero dose, defaulter tracing, cold chain, and Effective Vaccine Management
· Work with districts to strengthen school health programs, including follow-up on school-based Td,
7. Support planned New Vaccine Introductions and Vaccination Campaigns, HPV vaccination, and community COVID-19 integration
8. Support districts to conduct quarterly Performance Review Meetings:

10. Provide Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Annual progress report

Requirements
Job Qualifications:
Education,
· A university degree in;
o Public Health,
o Medicine
o Logistics management in public health-related field
· A Diploma in:
o Nursing and Midwifery
o Clinical Medicine
Abilities,
· Knowledge of the IA2030 and the Zero dose approach.
· Knowledge of Reaching Every District/every child (RED/REC) strategy is a must.
· Good analytic skills and report writing skill.
· Fluency in written and spoken English.
· Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
Skills
· Excellent planning, monitoring and evaluation skills and ability to plan and oversee projects.
· Expertise in working with communities, developing and disseminating technical information and messages.
· Ability to analyze, understand, innovate and discuss new program strategies, management and implementation approaches as required.
Experience
· Experience in the planning, implementation and monitoring in EPI service delivery and EPI logistics.
· Experience and proven working relations with District and HSD Health Teams.
· Knowledge of MOH/UNEPI operation is an added advantage.
· Diploma holders will require a minimum of three (3) years of progressive professional work experience, in managing immunization campaigns at a similar level.
Degree holders will require a minimum of two (2) years of working experience at a similar level.
